This was Douglas’ first holiday without his parents but with his cousin Roger Taplin in 1963.

The holiday had been based on Cliff Richard’s film of ‘Summer Holiday’ and was for three weeks from England to Athens covering 5,000 miles in a new Austin Mini Pickup.
